THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED The Palm Restaurant Review:
THIS ESTABLISHMENT IS CLOSED Diners will find the same raffish ambience here at this ritzy Merrick Park mall steakhouse as at its eight-decade-old NYC ancestor, right down to the irreverent caricatures of local dignitaries adorning the walls. Also familiar: the dinosaur-size lobsters, chops and aged beef, plus signature sides such as Half & Half (cottage fries and fried onions). The menu has been modernized with lighter bites (notably a balsamic-dressed arugula-endive salad, tossed with toasted walnuts and strawberries) and an extensive selection of fresh fish---some, like Australian barramundi, not the norm in Miami. But lovers of local fish are in luck, too. Chef Mary Rohan-Dominguez, formerly at Ortanique, is a seafood specialist, so it’s wise to inquire if servers (sometimes swift, sometimes sloppy) forget to mention specials. Checks are stiff, but so are the drinks, so no matter.
