THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Papadakis Taverna Restaurant Review:

The bohemian waterfront neighborhood around Papadakis Taverna does not lead you to expect an elegant restaurant, but that's one of the joys of this well-hidden mainstay, owned and operated by the Papadakis family since 1973. While the restaurant's boast of being perhaps the greatest Greek restaurant the world has ever known is an exaggeration, the food here is topnotch and the welcome very Greek. In between dancing and singing with the waiters, owners Tom and John Papadakis greet returning customers by name and go from table to table making friends. The splendid atmosphere aside, the saddle of lamb wrapped in phyllo and the fine seafood are ample reasons to return. There are also interesting combination plates. To start, the hot meze platter offers an overview of warm Greek appetizers, pairing tiropita with spanakopita, dolmas, shrimp phyllo and saganaki. For the main course, a gut-busting combination features moussaka, pastitsio, roast lamb and dolmas. For an extra $4, each entrée comes with soup and salad. End strong with homemade baklava or Greek walnut spice cake and a cup of strong Greek coffee. The drawbacks? While the wine list is well-chosen and interesting, the wines are somewhat overpriced, and when the waiters or belly dancer are performing, the music gets so loud that conversation is impossible.
