THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Paris Commune Restaurant Review:

Plush red banquettes, backlit photos of Paris street scenes, a zinc bar, chic chandeliers, attentive service. Looking into Paris Commune's large picture windows from the sidewalk, it would be easy to assume that this West Village restaurant offers a superior French dining experience at budget-busting prices. But then you'd be wrong---at least on one account. The classic French fare and fusion dishes with a touch of contemporary flair help make a memorable experience---not just because of the cooking, but because prices are low enough to keep regulars coming back. The steak frites might include the juiciest, tastiest hunk of meat this side of the pond and inventive, longtime favorite dishes like firecracker salmon (pan-seared and roasted and topped with honey adobo butter atop Moroccan couscous risotto and summer vegetables) and appetizers like escargots sautéed with butter, shallots, garlic and parsley and then flambéed with Pernod will have you speaking French by the end of the meal (whether you knew it before you walked in the door or not). The wine list is extensive and includes some thoughtfully selected and reasonably priced bottles.
