Park Ave. Restaurant Review: Fortunately for some and unfortunately for others, this eccentric bistro is located in Stanton. But don’t let the drive steer you away from making this place a regular in your fine dining repertoire. Chef-partner David Slay created the interior of this Googie-inspired building like a post-modern museum of cosmo-intelligence and down-home comfort. Slay’s dishes all seem to have an American component, whether it is corn fritters, horseradish, cranberry jam, New England maple ham or Vermont cheddar. Start with an old-fashioned cocktail or a glass of wine from the well-chosen list featuring mostly California vintners. Appetizers include a lobster fritter and tenderloin bites. Slay has pared down his entrée menu to put the spotlight on wild game, seafood, steaks and chops, featuring ingredients plucked fresh from the restaurant's on-site garden. We recommend the sweet and savory apple-stuffed pork chop or the tender bone-in rib-eye steak. Chef Slay also hosts winemaker dinners and Friday night shrimp feasts.
