French bistro defies time on Park Avenue South.
THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Park Avenue Bistro Restaurant Review:
When Park Avenue Bistro sat across the street from its current location, it had a decidedly behind-the-curtain privé French ambience. Today, in its expanded, airier digs, the Flatiron-Gramercy restaurant has broadened its appeal to offer solid, French bistro fare in a comfortable room with attentive service. Menu selections eschew the trendy with classics such as French onion soup, coq au vin, steak frites and escargots, served as they have been for decades. Desserts also stay traditional with a satisfying crème brûlée, apple tart, and a well-balanced cheese platter as standouts. With pricing that is consistent with economic realities, the restaurant is a destination for dependable French cuisine in a setting appropriate for dates as well as families, marked by colorful art from up-and-coming creative talents. The two prix-fixe menus for under $30 are good options.
