Great Wine List* Click here for rating key
| This was the go-to downtown restaurant for serious eaters before many more to speak of opened in Providence. Its staying power, however, is a testament to its consistency (not to mention chef-owner Steve Davenport's ability to spot a trend). One of the first upscale bistros with an open kitchen in the area, Parkside still delivers a good meal alongside a formidable wine list. Start with the house salad---a name that does little justice to its delightful mix of arugula, radicchio, red onion, plump red tomatoes and Gorgonzola, drizzled with vinaigrette. You can't go wrong with the rotisserie chicken marinated with lemon and garlic; the center-cut sirloin, served with a chipotle demi-glace, is a bit more adventurous. We recommend finishing with an apple tart served in a hearty pastry shell, topped with apple slices and strings of caramel. Or perhaps "finishing" is the wrong word---after a few bites, you'll be left with plenty to take home. |
