THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Pastis Express Restaurant Review:
Owner George Gurnon’s thirty years in the restaurant business has helped him sharply define what the moneyed local Rosedale neighborhood wants to eat with family and friends: good, uncomplicated food at even better prices. His time-tested menu with mains that hover at the twenty-dollar level includes some of the best recipes from his various chefs over the years. Fish soup with rouille and grated cheese is a classic recipe from his longtime former partner, the chef Claude Bouillet. We suggest coming here specifically for this perennial favorite or for the nicely spiced steak tartare and salty, crunchy frites, which also appear alongside mussels, crispy duck leg, steak and, of course, fish ‘n’ chips. Make no mistake: the restaurant sticks unabashedly to quintessential bistro fare. Expect to wait for a table and be prepared for boisterous crowds. The wine list, while not extensive, features well-chosen, affordable European labels. Desserts like profiteroles and crème brûlée are commonplace.
