 Patrick's Bar Vin Restaurant Review: New Orleanians who know their wine are all familiar with oenophile Patrick Van Hoorebeek. Van Hoorebeek’s background as sommelier and manager in some of the city’s finest dining rooms has well prepared him to helm his own wine bar. Van Hoorebeek’s wine list, while not the most extensive in town, is certainly among the most well thought out. Obvious favorites such as Sonoma-Cutrer Chardonnay are all there, but dig deeper for the real finds. Consider the Joseph Mellot 2010 “La Chatellenie” Sancerre, or the Skalli 2008 “La Tiare du Pape” Châteauneuf-du-Pape. It is not that these wines are necessarily rare --- they just do not often show up on New Orleans lists. Van Hoorebeek has wisely kept his selections distinctive, and complemented them with cheese and charcuterie plates. The room is as elegant as its host, and the vibe is strictly upscale. |
