| Mexico City-born Patricia Monroy is the hardest working street vendor in the city. Setting up shop on Lexington Avenue until late evening, she then moves the truck to Union Square until the wee hours of the morning. The truck serves generous helpings of authentic Mexican treats. No Tex-Mex or Cali-Mex here---this is the real deal. You’ll find huaraches, sopes, giant quesadillas and the aptly named Crazy Burrito filled with chorizo, Mexican cheese, rice, beans, beef and Patty’s special sauce. Be adventurous and try one of Patty’s tender tongue tacos---even those squeamish about the thought of eating tongue won’t mind; it’s that good. Equally notable and totally shareable is the Mexican torta, a sandwich mountain with avocado, cheese, refried beans, lettuce, tomato, onions, jalapeños and choice of meat. Be sure to top everything off with the green sauce---it’s not as hot as the red sauce but it’s a tasty blend of chilies and cilantro. Patty's also serves Mexican sodas and refreshing, cinnamony horchata. |
