Peppercorn's Grill Restaurant Review

: Glimpse the murals of the Italian countryside on the walls, smell the pungent garlic and spices wafting from the kitchen, catch a strain of soothing music, note the Italian print on the menus---and enjoy the aura of the closest you'll come in Connecticut to a quaint Roman trattoria. The meal continues the journey with items that are, true to central Italian cookery, simplicity itself---think house-made risotto or gnocchi di giorno and grilled veal with a truffle-porcini glaze, brought by discreetly attentive servers. A bottle of Chianti caps off the quickie trip to Italy.

Sad but true!

The evening began badly as soon as we walked in and were faced with a hostess who did not bother to greet us or ask if we had a reservation but just "two for dinner?" with no smile. She showed us to a tiny table for two, not sure why they have such small tables as most of their dishes are served on large plates, but because we had prior experience there, I asked her for a larger table. She answered that all the other tables were reserved for parties of 4. Surprised, I proceeded to try to convince her to let us sit at one of the bigger tables, but she was adamant saying they had a lot of reservations, so I let it go.

Food was good, not great and service was excellent but not even half hour after we arrived the hostess seated a party of two at a table for four right next to us. Needles to say, both my husband and I were furious. Our server overheard my husband speaking with the hostess and offered for us to move to a larger table and also offered us free dessert but that was pointless, we were not looking for freebies just to be treated with respect. To make matters worse, the hostess sat another party of two at a table for four on the other side of us. Through all that neither the manager or any of the owners came over to apologize!! Needless to say, we will not be returning to Peppercorns again.
