Dining room at Perennial, Chicago, ILYes, Perennial is located directly across the street from Lincoln Park---but that wasn’t the inspiration for its green-sounding name. Owners Rob Katz and Kevin Boehm, who also own Boka and Landmark, found the moniker for their restaurant in one of their favorite wines. But that doesn’t mean there isn’t a strong sense of seasonality going on here---look for produce from twice-a-week Green City Market nearby to make plenty of guest appearances on the menu. There’s lots of star-chef-power going on at this chic American bistro: it’s got executive chef Giuseppe Tentori (of Boka as well and formerly at Charlie Trotter’s) and Ryan Poli (ex-Butter). The “wings & beer” from the starters menu, with its beautiful frenched confit chicken legs, beer-braised onions and blue cheese foam, is a draw. And the flat iron steak from the entrées with a flavorful black pepper bordelaise is memorable, too. With its lovely patio, we predict playing hooky from work to become more prevalent as soon as the restaurant opens for lunch.
