THIS RESTAURANT HAS CHANGED NAMES Pesce Blue Restaurant & Bar Restaurant Review:
THIS RESTAURANT HAS CHANGED NAMES TO PESCE ITALIAN KITCHEN & BAR. Pesce Blue brings a touch of the urban to old New England. While the historic town of Portsmouth isn’t totally un-hip, the restaurant is ultra-cool, with sleek mid-century décor and industrial concrete walls covered in modern art. The cuisine is modern as well, with a menu that emphasizes fish on the one hand, locally sourced goods on the other---the produce is farm-fresh and the prosciutto is made in-house. Small plates are another focus; you can make a meal out of antipasti in the $6 range, like veal polpetti with garlic-herb oil or sweet Spanish anchovies. There’s also a grill menu with meats and fish served with exotic salts and olive oil with sides like minted peas. Still heartier entrées include lasagna with lamb sausage and creamy ricotta, both house-made, and pan-roasted local haddock gone earthy with cauliflower and pumpkin. For dessert, the pure cream fennel panna cotta would be the only way to go---if it weren’t for homemade gelati in intense flavors like hazelnut.
