Pesce Fresco Restaurant Review: This tiny place, no bigger than a double-wide, serves simple and unpretentious Italian food. The angel hair pasta, for example, is sauced with fresh tomatoes, basil and plenty of garlic. The satisfyingly hearty rigatoni---smothered in a pink Asiago cream sauce---is full of spicy Italian sausage. Seafood selections abound. We recommend the large-enough-to-share bowl of zuppa di pesce bobbing with mussels, shrimp, scallops and fresh fish served over cappellini topped with gremolata; grilled salmon glossed with a balsamic glaze; and grilled scallops with baby artichokes. The tasty Gorgonzola cheesecake appetizer---topped with caramelized balsamic onions and fried mushrooms---is a departure from the chef's usual, simpler fare. For dessert, try the homemade gelato. From the 200-selection list of reasonably priced wines---mostly Italian choices here---we often opt for a light, straw-colored Valpolicella or full-bodied Chianti Classico. |
