| Dining destination Maison Robert may be long gone, but Jacky Robert has returned stronger than ever. Providing the same casual, affordable experience its French counterparts offer, his true-blue Kenmore Square bistro has proven a big hit; its South End sibling aims to imitate. To that end, Robert and his crew turn out classic workmen's lunches like croques monsieur, crêpes and omelets, as well as a soon-to-be classic, the wonderfully messy “burgerdog” en baguette. Hearty simplicity defines the dinner menu, too, from the house pâté assortment to tripe Provençale to calf's liver sautéed with bacon and onion. Best of all for sweet-toothed sorts, Kristen Lawson serves up her meticulously detailed confections here, too---from perfectly crunchy-chewy macaroons served in their own chocolate box to a flawless, rustic tarte Tatin. |
