THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Petra Restaurant Review: With a bit of Creole here, a tad of Italian there, and a smattering of the unclassifiable elsewhere, the bottom line is a menu that amounts to a minefield. On the starter list is the Middle Eastern mezes, with workaday versions of hummus, baba ghanouj and tabbouleh. A better option is the sautéed eggplant cake with a ladling of crabmeat in a delicious sauce. Duck breast turns up tender and nicely roasted in a toothsome fig glaze. But fish florentine is a sorry mismatch of seafood and spinach. Desserts appear to be afterthoughts, as in a tiramisú and crème brûlée that break no new ground. |
