Petrossian Boutique & Restaurant Restaurant Review

: The name Petrossian belongs not just to a brand, but also to a family: in the 1920's, brothers Melkoum and Mouchegh Petrossian, who had fled Russia, introduced caviar to Paris and then to the rest of the world. This Los Angeles outpost was once a boutique/café, but has since been expanded to offer a more serious dining experience. (Chef Alex Ageneau will be stepping in as executive chef, taking over from Giselle Wellman.) The menus highlight specialties of fresh pasta and seafood. The restaurant's signature ingredient appears in executions that are very intelligent. Start with the Dungeness crab corn soup either for lunch or dinner. In the evening, dishes may include lobster potato gnocchi or Jidori chicken with black truffles, wild morels, red quinoa, English peas and chicken jus. End the meal with panna cotta with espresso caviar and cardamom shortbread cookies. Enter or exit via the store, and let faithful general manager Christopher Klapp help you find the black pearls of your dreams (or budget), as well as other gourmet foods such as salmon and Petrossian chocolates. Despite the luxury products available, the décor is rather simple with faux galuchat on the tables and the walls. Petrossian's signature brunch ($60), which includes caviar, main dish, dessert and coffee or tea plus a glass of sparkling wine or brunch cocktail, can be ordered any day of the week, not just on the weekends. There's also an haute street food happy hour menu, Monday through Friday, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Patrons can indulge in a caviar burger slider with pressed caviar, lettuce, fried egg, caviar aïoli and french fries. Caviar 301 takes place on the third Thursday of each month. For $125, guests have the opportunity to sample some of Petrossian's most expensive caviars and enjoy a seven-course, caviar-centric dinner. (Reservations are required for Caviar 301.)
