Here is an appealingly incongruous restaurant, a place where heaping plates of fresh basil, mint, bean sprouts, lime and spicy peppers help to brighten up a corner of an Oxnard strip mall. Pho, the traditional Vietnamese soup served with this raw medley of fixings, is the main draw. While the menu appears extensive, choices are subtle. Would you like your pho with rare steak or well-done brisket? Flank, tendon or tripe? All of the above? Other authentic foods include the ubiquitous spring roll and grilled meats served atop rice vermicelli and vegetables. Vietnamese-style coffee made with condensed milk provides a thick and sweet finish to an otherwise light meal. Or try atypically flavored shakes like durian, jackfruit and tomato. If you’re dining with a small group, consider cook-it-yourself dishes such as shrimp marinated with lemon grass.
