20 Brix Restaurant Review:

We could talk about the extensive list of wines by the glass or describe the quaint storefront of the restaurant's wine shop, which adds some elegance to historic Old Milford. Or we could just call it a destination for those who crave a wide selection of wines and a community culture. You may enjoy a tasting menu alongside a farmer whose goods are on the table. There are also soups, like the butternut squash and pepper version. The weekly five-course tasting dinners often sell out. But here's the real secret of 20 Brix, a wine bar named after the Brix scale of measuring sugar in liquid: it's a sweet spot worth visiting for desserts. Arriving on little wooden cutting boards, lemon cake with creamy mascarpone tastes like the top of a blueberry muffin, minus the blueberries. And what is described as a "chocolate hockey puck" reminds us of picking out the best chocolate eggs on Easter morning. While the place is known for its lamb meatballs, scallops and shrimp 'n' grits, we find them unremarkable. Shared side dishes for the table include lard-fried Brussels sprouts or fingerling potatoes with smoked lemon yogurt and chives. There also are gluten-free options, such as fresh fish with a yogurt dressing.
