About the décor: Acme Oyster House’s North Shore outpost is miles away from the French Quarter original, but the offerings maintain every bit of the quality. You'll find the same neon signs and black-and-white checkered tablecloths, even if the décor seems a bit manufactured rather than weathered and time-tested.
Likes: Fried seafood platters.
Dislikes: Distance from New Orleans.
Food & Drinks: Gumbo or red beans served in a bread bowl, known here as the Poopa, is a house specialty. Acme also offers “Cajun sushi” with raw or fried oysters or fried shrimp topped with wasabi, Tabasco soy sauce and sticky rice to be eaten with chopsticks. If oysters are not for you, the 10 Napkin Roast Beef sandwich is juicy, messy and built with some of the crispiest French bread in town. For dessert, get a chocolate brownie sundae or pecan cobbler with vanilla bean ice cream. A fine Abita beer will pair well with the food, although wines are offered.
