Caffe Carerra Restaurant Review:

On a Beverly Hills street known mostly for its doctors' offices, this cozy, charming café is easily overlooked, but that would be a mistake. The founding Carrera family from Grammichele, Sicily, started in the restaurant business in 1908, and their recipes are still respected. Begin with a portion of antipasti, preferably one of the three C’s: caponata, caprese or carpaccio. There are salads, panini and individual pizzas, including one with shiitake mushrooms and garlic. A long list of pastas includes lasagna, fettuccine Bolognese and borsettine (“candy bags”) stuffed with Gorgonzola. For main courses, don’t pass up the Sicilian-style meatloaf or well-priced veal dishes. Popular desserts are tiramisu and the cannoli, made with ricotta cheese, as well as profiteroles served in a glass bowl. Although not extensive, the mostly Italian wine list offers good value, some interesting finds, and a decent selection by the glass.
