Mellow Mushroom Restaurant Review:

Locally known as “The 'Shroom,” Mellow Mushroom is the city's homegrown pizza chain. This modern, sleek outpost boasts strategically placed TVs throughout, along with both indoor and outdoor patios. Funky, colorful paintings cover the walls, enhanced by one half of a VW bus emerging from one wall. As for the pizzas, we like the properly chewy crust, which forms a substantial base for any of several pies and calzones. The house special pizza piles on meats and vegetables, but the more classically styled Gourmet White appeals to the purist. Items are prepared with nutrition in mind: the whole-grain dough is made with spring water and the sauces have no added sugar. Gluten-free pizza dough may be requested for a surcharge. Salads abound, and sandwiches, available by the half order, come on whole-grain breads with a good side salad. There are plenty of vegetarian selections as well. Slices are served only at lunch Monday-Friday until about 1:30 p.m. Thirty-five beers are on tap, as well as ten wines by the glass. Other locations.
