Nizza Restaurant Review:

This fusion restaurant from the owners of French Roast and Nice Matin combines French and Italian cooking from the Riviera of both countries. Eschewing the ageless brassiere look, Nizza has a swanky vibe---swanky circa 1970, that is, if you date the décor by the orange banquettes. The food showcases some items unique to the region. First up are socca, a pancake made with chickpeas, here done with onions and sage and topped with tapenade (the chickpeas also appear in the form of french fries). They’re a bit like bulky crêpes, but as a pre-theater nosh, they’re hard to top. Another standout appetizer is the savory-sweet roasted beets with Gorgonzola and honey. Nothing on the menu is over $15, not even the crisp, thin-crust pizzas (the Provençal, topped with ratatouille, goat cheese and pesto, is a real showstopper). The pastas, which include wild boar lasagna and crab ravioli, are on the heavy side and exceedingly rich.
