Roka Akor Restaurant Review:

There’s your neighborhood sushi eatery and one reserved for special occasions --- Roka Akor definitely falls into the latter category. Driven by seasonal ingredients, the restaurant rotates its prime-cut steaks, seafood and vegetables with Japanese-inspired marinades and sauces, along with sushi and sashimi. The omakase menu is a sensory feast, each course building up for the next crescendo. One of those “ahhh” moments? The sashimi platter, piled with buttery selections such as amberjack, yellowtail and fatty tuna. Complement the sushi with numerous hot plate standouts, including the robata grilled pork belly with marinated golden beets, the Wagyu beef and kimchi dumplings, and the robata grilled scallops with yuzu, shiso and wasabi. Substantial sides reflect the overall indulgence, from the black truffle laced Japanese wild mushroom rice hot pot to the crab rice hot pot. Light desserts such as green tea custard and strawberry mango tiramisu are exclamation points on the meal. When in Roka Akor, skip the wine list for the sizeable array of saké, categorized by kire, asobi, aji and kaori, which pair to specific flavors.
