Sammy's Shrimp Box Restaurant Review:

City Island has always been a puzzle. The long peninsula is lined with pleasure boats, fishing vessels and dozens of seafood restaurants, some truly enormous in size but most not particularly desirable. Sammy’s is an empire of sorts. With three Sammy’s restaurants across the street from another, there are always seats. Sammy’s Shrimp Box adds a bit of Latin pizzazz to this seafood emporium, serving shrimp in nearly every form, including “piri piri,” as well as snapper and paella to complement seafood-loaded pasta and lobster dishes. Portions are enormous and should be shared. After you’ve munched on the complimentary antipasto plate and home-baked bread loaf that’s served as a starter, you may realize that you’ve over-ordered. Skip the fried seafood and stick to basics like the shellfish sampler, which includes a Maine lobster, clams, oysters and shrimp, or get spicier with the “Cajun magic” mix. Italian pastas are also served.
