Southport Grocery & Cafe Restaurant Review:

If you don’t like kids or crowds, it’s doubtful you’ll enjoy the scene at this ever-packed neighborhood spot, where brunchers come in droves for contemporary a.m. fare. Suck it up, we say, because the bites are satisfying enough to make you forget the tightly packed tables, gurgling tots and probable wait. The food, which comes from culinary school pals Lisa Santos and Emily Lamb, is modern and fun; the shop’s grab-and-go baked and gourmet goods --- though well-edited --- are pleasing as well. Dishes that stay in our minds include the grown-up bread pudding pancakes with cinnamon sugar butter and the spinach omelet, a take on the staple that’s filled with artichoke dip. (The filling also can be purchased on the grocery side.) The far-from-dry scones are some of the best around, and the cupcakes alone are worth their weight in pounds. The eatery also devises secret suppers, which are open to those who follow it on Facebook and Twitter, or are email subscribers.
