Tartine Restaurant Review:

This West Village bistro is easier to find than you'd think: just look for the gaggle of people, wine bottles in hand, conjugating on the sidewalk. Why, you ask, is this bistro so popular? It might be because of the French comfort fare --- the bouchée à la reine (that's French for potpie), beef mignonette aux poivre with fries, and, of course, the croque monsieur on brioche are all worth the wait. So is the restaurant's wine list --- or lack thereof. The BYOB policy (with no corkage fee) is like a gift, allowing patrons to splurge for the most expensive item on the menu without having to buy an overpriced bottle of vino. Décor is cozy (read: don't expect much leg room): a jumble of tables and various bric-a-brac tacked to the walls will make you feel at home enough to linger for dessert.
