Truxton's American Bistro Restaurant Review:

In the quiet community of Westchester, Truxton’s offers Americana-inspired comfort food in a dining room with expansive windows that fill the rectangular space with light, while white walls and exposed wood-beamed ceilings add to the relaxed setting. A 15-seat bar welcomes sports fans with flat-screen TVs --- it’s separated enough from diners so that conversation isn’t affected. Servers are cordial and willing to make recommendations. We enjoy the hearty spinach dip, filled with chunky artichokes, smoked mozzarella and various cheeses, but should have skipped the soggy, thin-crust wheat pizza of wild mushrooms and caramelized onions. Tender specialty brisket is available in several dishes, like hand-rolled taquitos, a barbecue-laden sandwich and an entrée portion. The kitchen forays into more modern dishes, too, like swordfish Veracruz and cola-braised baby-back ribs with ancho chiles. For a healthy alternative, “the Berkeley plate” includes a patty composed of mixed vegetables, grains and lentils atop an arugula and goat cheese salad with pomegranate vinaigrette. Dessert is anything but light, with options like fried churros with caramel, and a molten chocolate cream cheese brownie topped with vanilla ice cream. California labels dominate the limited wine list, and there’s a comprehensive selection of cocktails.
