Talented chef Eric Hara, formerly of The Oak Room, found his groove with 9, a chic spot in Hell’s Kitchen offering satisfying, elevated takes on comfort food. But he didn’t rest on his laurels. Soon after 9’s opening, he fired up the burners next door. Enter Pier 9, a seafood version of 9. Starters include creamy crab and shiitake arancini, lobster mac ‘n’ cheese, and for land-lovers, Asian-style pork belly buns. Bigger portioned fare includes a better-than-you’d-think lobster hot dog, nicely seared scallops (paired with a celery root purée) and a sourdough-encrusted striped bass. The wine selection spans the globe but the real hit are the inventive cocktails, like the Clamato-and-wasabi-laden Bloody Mary or the black-truffle-spiked martini.
