Pierre Orsi, Lyon, france

Pierre Orsi Restaurant Review

: This is one of Lyon's very best bets! The restaurant itself--located at the heart of the Brotteaux district--is a showcase, and the service couldn't be more perfect. British comfort, French tradition, Italian elegance--you'll find it all at Pierre Orsi. Chef Pierre Orsi has a razor-sharp instinct for ingredients and cooking times, and his foie gras and house-smoked salmon are truly beyond compare. Be sure to taste the succulent pan-roasted veal sweetbreads done in Sherry, the crunchy vegetable chartreuse (a veritable monument), and the gorgeous, ultraclassic desserts. The ample wine list is rich in Bordeaux and Burgundies from top-notch sources. And believe us, the summer lunch in the rose graden may just be the bargain of the century!

Worst lobster ever and nothing was done about it.

On the plus side, everything other than my wife's lobster dish was deserving of a 15 on the Gayot scale. However, her lobster dish with artichoke came out horribly overcooked - rubber lobster and artichoke that had the consistency of well cooked and buttered summer squash. The waitress did not check in with us at all and not until long after I had already finish my very good beef entree. When we pointed out to her how horribly the lobster and artichoke was overcooked she shrugged her shoulders and took away the plate only to come back with a snobby attitude and absolutely nothing to make amends for what would never have been tolerated at a real Michelin starred restaurant. The best part of the meal was buying a bottle of 1990 Guigal Cote Rote Mouline off the wine list for a very reasonable 320 Euros. If The Relais & Chateaux brand could move the wine list from this restaurant to Les Terraces de Lyon, then you've have a restaurant that is truly special.
