Pinea, Washington, DC

Pinea Restaurant Review

: Cool turquoise-hued walls, wildly federalist murals and arched windows overlooking the sidewalk --- is that the White House across the street? --- comprise the ideal setting for chef Barry Koslow’s menu that stars Mediterranean flavors with inventive American touches. Koslow, who has made his mark in several DC restaurants, kicks things off with antipasti, such as Spanish octopus with pork belly or Italian wedding soup. Patrons can also opt for a Black Angus burger and many other lunchtime selections, including eggplant Parmesan. Dinner offers more choices that include braised lamb shank, slow-roasted duck breast and pasta entrées. Desserts may change from season to season, but should you come upon the pineapple tarte Tatin with pink peppercorns and caramel sauce do not hesitate to snap it up. The restaurant has an extensive wine list, plus the downstairs Root Cellar Whisky Bar with cocktails, differing wines and beers and a happy hour menu.
