Pink's Hot Dogs Restaurant Review:

About the Pinks and the restaurant: Pink's Hot Dogs is truly a labor of love. Paul and Betty Pink started the business as a hot dog pushcart in 1939, and eventually purchased the land and built the current (more permanent) structure in 1946. The next generation of the family (son and daughter Richard and Beverly, along with Richard's wife, Gloria) took over in 1985 and continued the success story of this LA fast-food icon. (You might even have seen the Bank of America TV commercial featuring Pink's Hot Dogs as a client referral.) From morning until late at night, you're bound to find a long line of hungry patrons winding in front of the counter ordering windows. There are umbrella-shaded tables on the back patio, as well as a few tables inside the small, no-frills space. The walls are covered with row after row of headshots from the many celebrities who have eaten at Pink's over the years. (Orson Welles still holds the record of 18 dogs in a single seating, but one should be enough for an average appetite.) The reputation of the sausages and their accoutrements is such that tourists from all over the world have added Pink's to their itinerary of the City of Angels.

Likes: the chili dog.
Dislikes: the line, but it's part of the fun.

Food & Drinks: The whimsical menu at Pink's is surprisingly extensive, and even overwhelming. Our insider tip is to get the dog with the homemade chili --- the clientele's favorite. The sausages are not housemade, but they are prepared per Pink's requirements. There are three kinds of sausages (mild Polish, spicy Polish and a jalapeño filled sausage), as well as a turkey dog, vegan dog and two sizes of all-beef hot dogs (seven inch and nine inch). The "Super Specials" include one created by Giada De Laurentiis herself, which is topped with sautéed peppers, onions, mushrooms, chopped tomatoes and shredded mozzarella cheese. You should add a side order of fries or onion rings. If you are accompanying someone and are not in the mood for a hot dog, try one of the eleven hamburgers. For dessert, you can only choose between the chocolate marble cake or coconut-frosted white cake. Pink's also offers catering for special events. There is no alcohol, just soft drinks. There is NO WAY you can leave hungry.
