Pistolero’s Tequila & Taco Bar Restaurant Review:

Pistolero’s Tequila & Taco Bar is a cross between an old Mexico taqueria and a hipster bar, just what you’d expect to find along lower Westheimer from restaurateur and retailer Shawn Bermudez. The small space is all reclaimed wood and exposed brick with a small museum’s worth of folk art; there are also plenty of flat screen TVs. Pistolero’s stays open until 2 a.m., attracting late-night crowds enjoying loud music. But go for dinner and you’ll find a booth to settle into, or if the weather’s good, plenty of patio seating. There’s a full bar that features infused tequilas, of course, as well as some familiar Mexican beers. What we really like about this spot, however, are the tacos: Mexican street food with a hint of upscale ingredients. Think red mole pork topped with grilled corn and green onion nestled in a house-made corn tortilla. Or try the oxtail with a smoked tomato jam and red onions. The joint even has fish tacos and vegetarian tacos, including a portobello mushroom taco with a cauliflower purée. The menu also lists Mexican-style sandwiches and burritos, and a few large plates like the seared chicken thigh with chorizo hash and chile-garlic green beans. Check out the breakfast tacos offered for brunch on the weekend.
