| Although there are multiple Pizza Nova locations around town, we prefer the Hillcrest store for its easy access to Landmark Theater's art-house movies upstairs. Grab one of the hand-thrown, wood oven-baked pizzas before a film or a stroll around Hillcrest's Fifth Avenue. We like the hodgepodge of fusion-style choices: Thai pizza with shrimp, sprouts, carrots, peanuts and Thai peanut-ginger sauce; and barbecue chicken with red onions, cilantro and a trio of cheeses. Salads are huge---try the chipotle-lime-chicken with romaine, iceberg lettuce, tomatoes, corn, roasted peppers, mozzarella and grilled chicken, drizzled with fiery dressing. Pasta dishes tend toward the traditional like fettuccine Alfredo and four-cheese ravioli. The risotto with fire-roasted teardrop tomatoes and fresh basil shines in its simplicity and flavor. Even the minimal wine list has some clever choices from smaller producers, such as Kaiken from Argentina. For dessert, you can't go wrong with the hot lava cake with Häagan Dazs vanilla ice cream or traditional tiramisu. |
