| Craig and Anne Stoll's second Pizzeria Delfina brings the popular eatery's signature, blistered Neapolitan pizza to Pacific Heights. Wait times for the no-reservation pizzeria can reach upwards of one hour, and well-heeled crowds are willing to spend that time and more on the sidewalk, glasses of en vrac Italian wine in hand, for a seat at the counter or casual table within the 40-seat space. Frenetic cooks man two wood-burning ovens and antipasti stations behind the counter, and hip servers bustle under the bright lights. Less is more here, with just a handful of high-quality ingredients topping most pies. It's this brand of simplicity, an extension of the Stolls' philosophy at Delfina, that once again proves successful. A pie smothered in spicy sauce, sprinkled with pecorino and, as the main event, topped with two farm eggs is one of the best on the menu. House-made fennel sausage shines when paired with tomato, bell pepper and mozzarella. Pizzas are delicate and light---great news for dessert hounds who will have room for sweets such as gelato made on-site or the amarena cherry sundae. |
