THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Plainfields Restaurant Restaurant Review: Plainfields, located in the elegant, turn-of-the-century Meier Mansion, is as formal as a high-end country club, complete with thick carpets, white napery, fine crystal, and gleaming table settings. The food arrives under silver coverings that expert servers remove with a flourish to reveal the aromatic dishes lying beneath. The tandoori dishes are particularly appealing, and any meat ordered from the tandoor oven will be crispy and red on the outside, and soft and moist on the inside. The signature appetizer of fried lentil balls perks up with a dipping in the hot-ginger, cool-yogurt sauce. The spice level is restrained, but diners are offered a platter of condiments that can be used to add heat. Every so often, the chef goes Western with his special “whimsy” dinners featuring straight-up Pacific Northwest fare. Desserts show off his range as well, with nightly choices that may feature German chocolate cake. The lengthy wine list offers something for everyone, including fans of port and Madeira.
