If you crave Americanized and homogenized Mexican fare, don’t come to this little-known downtown treasure. The chefs here dish up a beach-sized menu of Michoacan-style Mexi-meals that are far better than the flavorless fare at more popular destinations. House specialties include a sizzling and savory carne adovada, spicy steak ranchero and homemade tamales. Or skip the land-locked proteins and reel in one of the house fish entrées. A whole trout comes with head intact and a sauce of garlic and butter, a filet comes rolled in lime juice and flour. Of course there are also tacos, burritos and other typical plates, too. Breakfast seekers come for eye-opening platters of eggs served with green chile, chorizo and more gringo-friendly options.
