French bistro classics in TriBeCa.
THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Plein Sud Restaurant Review:
After Edward’s and The Odeon, it doesn’t seem like there would be enough room for another casual French-inflected restaurant in TriBeCa. But Plein Sud fits right in just fine. It’s informal yet stylish, with cozy booths and banquettes that are matched up with a rustic wood ceiling. The menu is straightforward bistro fare with all the classics making an appearance --- a very good steak with panko-encrusted fries is a sure bet, as is the whole grilled daurade. But one could eat well by enjoying the starters exclusively: a long list of pâtés, including a soothing duck and foie gras version, flatbreads (especially the smoked bacon and onion), and a creamy cold corn soup. There are decent by-the-glass wine options, including crisp Sancerre and oaky Chardonnay.
