Plow & Anchor Restaurant Restaurant Review: Tucked behind Central Library just north of the busy downtown area is a neighborhood find featuring fresh seafood and locally sourced foods from the land. The sleek open room with its black and metal furnishings is chic while maintaining a warm, welcoming feel. The menu is limited and yet packed with flavors to suit everyone. For starters there's a halibut tostada, a daily oyster selection or creamy asparagus soup garnished with fried mushrooms. Asparagus also appears in the truffled egg toast that mixes the spring vegetable with ricotta and egg yolk. Entrées are as simple as a burger cooked on a plancha grill or grilled cheese prepared with drunken goat cheese, Fair Oaks cheddar, mushroom jam and arugula, but then there’s ocean trout served with a tomato panzanella or roasted halibut with butter-poached radishes, ramp greens and spring peas. The bar offers a decent selection of wines, craft beers and mixed drinks along with sparkling wines by the glass or bottle. Consider a bubbly with the beignets and caramelized bananas or the surprise dessert of lavender biscuit topped with fresh strawberries, rhubarb and fresh pea shoots.
