Walking into Plow, with its ultra-high ceilings, polished wood floors and simple tables and chairs, is like coming home. It's a stylish home, run by Joel Bleskacek and Maxine Siu, who met at Oakland’s Oliveto and have a shared love for simple food done well. The couple serves up plates of artisanal breakfast, lunch, and weekend brunch to crowds wooed, in part, by striking views of San Francisco's downtown. Breakfast lovers are rewarded with a selection of the traditional (house-made granola and yogurt, omelets, a fried egg sandwich) or the unique (Chinese breakfast is two fried eggs, sausage, jasmine rice and chives). For lunch try a classic grilled cheese, fried chicken sandwich or the smoked trout salad layered with frisée, avocado, grapefruit and crème fraîche. If brunch is your thing, be warned: the lines are long but worth it for the chance to experience fluffy lemon ricotta pancakes or eggs Benedict with Fra'mani ham. If you’re feeling sassy, don’t forget to order something to drink: the beer and wine list is short but nicely informed by the couple’s other neighborhood venture, wine shop Ruby Wine.
