Polentoni Restaurant Review

: Enter Polentoni to encounter somewhat of a surprise, as the charming and rustic dining room --- brick walls, wood floors and exposed ceilings --- is a welcome escape from the industrial neighborhood and imposing 405 freeway right above. Service can be slow, but that might be the perfect speed for those looking for a romantic evening. Calamari makes for a decent starter, the texture light and tender with a crispy exterior, while deep-fried polenta is a heavy mess topped with a thick Bolognese meat sauce and sliced sausages. Pasta is the house specialty, with dishes like homemade fettuccine with broccoli and chicken in a creamy white garlic sauce, and lasagna with a crusty top layer and filling of ricotta, mozzarella and the same Bolognese meat sauce. Going for simplicity is the best option when ordering an entrée, particularly chicken piccata --- a yielding and thin cutlet of breast finished with the classic briny sauce of capers and lemon. A concise wine list includes some good Italian selections.
