This beautiful two-level restaurant pretty much has it all---a great view of the Redondo marina, stylishly modern dining rooms with cheery fireplaces, a cozy bar and lounge with a rustic stone fireplace and a well-conceived, well-executed menu. When it comes to portions, Pooch's pulls no punches---for example, breakfast omelets are made of not three, but five eggs. The rustic Italian cuisine, with a strong emphasis on seafood, is the concept of Robin Haas, a high profile and prolific Florida restaurateur. Highlights of the dinner menu include fettuccine with shrimp and calamari; Livorno seafood stew with roasted shellfish, seafood, tomatoes, fennel and white wine; baked whole rock cod with artichoke-panchetta mashed spuds and braised lamb osso buco. First plates include grilled calamari salad with spinach and roasted peppers and a fennel-citrus vinaigrette, and there's an appealing selection of pizzas such as the frutti di mare with grilled shrimp and calamari, smoked tomatoes and spinach. The wine list boasts more than 75 California and Italian wines. The bar is stocked with over 40 types of vodka, and patrons may purchase individual bottles of vodka and store them in the bar's vodka locker.
