The Porch Restaurant and Bar Restaurant Review: The Porch is the kind of place that beckons diners to sit back, put their feet up and relax with a cool drink and a comforting meal. Surrounded by a white picket fence, the veranda is reminiscent of a Southern plantation, while inside, floor-to-ceiling windows bring the outside in. Small touches, such as twine-tied menus and mason jar glassware, create a rustic vibe, while dark wood and fresh greenery create a clean, earthy feel. The menu elevates down-home Southern cooking a notch to meet modern tastes with locally produced, organic ingredients. The popular skillet cornbread starter is comfort food at its finest, speckled with pimiento and served with spicy jalapeño-honey butter. Buttermilk fried, free-range chicken is not overpoweringly greasy, the well-spiced crust sweetened with a touch of honey; served with organic cheddar grits and spicy peanut slaw, the generous meal could easily serve two. Desserts feature more Southern favorites, such as sweet potato pie with a "marshmallow gratin," and a wide selection of specialty cocktails, many bourbon-based, includes the obligatory mint julep.
