Porchetta Restaurant is one of GAYOT's 2013

![]() Porchetta Restaurant Review: The namesake meat is a central-Italy delicacy, a rich, boneless pork that’s been cooked with garlic, fennel and rosemary, often hinting of spice. It usually appears in autumn, but this East Village eatery’s authentic-tasting rendition will take your palate on a trip to Umbria or Lazio, regardless of the season. The menu is as compact as the front room, which boasts five stools and is designed---not surprisingly---like an Italian butcher shop. The porchetta sandwich is enveloped between two pieces of soft ciabatta; the crunchy skin of the pork adds a satisfying texture. A plate of chicory (with garlic dressing) is a nice complement. Other menu items include cooked greens, crispy potatoes and a mozzarella sandwich. |
