Praise the Lard BBQ is a bit of a spoof but the people who operate this classic, traditional 'cue joint are serious about religion nonetheless. So no alcohol is offered. The interior is nearly spartan, although one wall sports the name of the establishment in outsize metal letters. As these folks also are serious about 'cue, several sauces are lined up in handy bottles sitting on trays. Their philosophy is, correctly in our view, the meat comes first. Pulled pork mounded deep on a bun needs no adornment, although we like the vinegar pepper sauce on it. Brunswick stew has potatoes, and they're fresh cut wedges of redskin spuds; corn kernels dot the well-seasoned mixture. Coleslaw is crisp and not too sweet; if you want something sweet, go for the carrot soufflé as a side dish if it's available. Desserts are Southern classics: "nanner" puddin' and cobbler with fresh fruit among them. When you leave, you will indeed be giving praise.
