Besides sharing walls and owners with the trendy Republic, the two eateries share chef Mark Mittleman (formerly of The Beverly Hills Hotel’s Polo Lounge) as well. While Republic is big and loud at night, during the day this tiny outdoor bistro is a quiet café. Prana’s long banquette and sidewalk tables are shaded just enough for quasi-outdoor enjoyment and, if you’re lucky, celebrity sightings. But you may not be able to look up long enough once the food arrives. The light, contemporary fare is full of healthy, fresh ingredients, but one can also indulge in build-your-own meat and cheese egg scrambles covered in a rich dill crème fraîche, accompanied by rustic herbes de Provence potatoes or crispy shoestring fries. Pan-Asian Fusion adds new twists to dishes like the Maryland crab cake wrap and the Thai omelet with shrimp, Thai chilies, shallots and accompanying lettuce cups. There are many vegetarian-friendly dishes, but salmon fans will particularly enjoy their options including burgers, eggs and an enjoyable seared salmon salad with chopped olives and caper berries.
