Take the Mediterranean, move it ever-so-slightly to the Texas Gulf Coast, add un poquito de Mexico and voila!, Presidio---a River Walk restaurant with a lot on its plate. Fresh blue marlin ceviche headlines an appetizer list that also offers up crab cakes with a Grand Marnier-pesto cream sauce, mussels provençales with baked Parmesan, and quesadillas stuffed with smoked prime rib and black beans. Chef Stefan Wiles has kept the globetrotting theme alive in the entrée section as well. Salmon crusted with pistachios; shrimp, scallop and mango enchiladas; and pasta with a garlic-Manchego sauce appear with equal emphasis. Nor will the easily disoriented find a lodestone in the dining environment. The place has taken pains to ensure comfort in the sometimes challenging summertime season by installing a misting machine in the outdoor seating areas. The result is something like the moors of Scotland meets the quasi-tropical microclimate of the river---curious but curiously refreshing.
