Situated along Napa Valley's main thoroughfare and adjacent to that gourmet store is Press, a farmhouse-style building with vaulted ceilings and lean, modern furnishings. A palpable upscale air is helped by the tantalizing aroma wafting from the kitchen, a giddying mix of grilled meats and melting truffle butter. Press touts specialized ingredients from across the country --- Pennsylvania Dutch milk-fed veal, Berkridge Farms Heritage Pork from Iowa and Maine-caught Jonah crab, prepared in a wood oven or rotisserie. Sea-foodies will delight in the raw oyster bar, shrimp-lobster cocktails and grand seafood platters. Generous beef offerings served with creamed spinach or truffled mac ‘n’ cheese are easily shared. Save room for the three-scoop Valrhona chocolate brownie sundae. The unique, Napa-only wine list boasts cult favorites and small-production, new producers.
