This is one of many gastropubs in Notting Hill Gate, which is packed in the evenings and on weekends. The décor is a formulaic re-incarnation of many a Victorian pub, and will be instantly familiar to people who like such establishments. Its owners, Bass, have kept on the services of Beth Coventry, who oversees the kitchen to ensure that the high quality of the food is maintained. Indeed, it is far better than many similar pubs. The daily menu is hand-written on the blackboard and includes many robust dishes: a daily soup, salads and pastas, such as spinach salad with shaved Parmesan and pancetta, and penne with roasted aubergine and pesto.
