In bustling Atwater Village, a rapidly gentrifying neighborhood sandwiched between Silver Lake and Glendale, pastry chef Na Young Ma’s tiny establishment is just big enough for a couple display cases and a few marble tables, with some seats spilling out onto the busy sidewalk. In the morning, folks from the area line up for flaky croissants, scones or pains au chocolat with Valrhona chocolate. They pair their personal favorites with locally roasted Cognoscenti Coffee, another cult favorite that has launched a pop-up operation inside the bakery. At lunch, people come for quiches, croque monsieurs or other sandwiches on fresh-baked brioche or ciabatta. Sweets include salted chocolate chip cookies, pomegranate tarts with dark chocolate crusts, and anything else that might be scrawled onto the daily chalkboard menu. Proof is a very good reason to discover Atwater Village.
