| Casual, unpretentious and likeable, Prospect Café is a friendly neighborhood tavern where you can grab a beer, a burger and a ball game on TV, or get leisurely on the outdoor patio, a coveted spot come summer. The Hartford landmark has been around since 1965, and you'll soon discover why: it truly does treat all its customers like friends and family. As for the extensive menu, it's far above average for this type of establishment. The generous Italian specialties in particular are good bets, from eggplant Parmesan and chicken Marsala to spaghetti with chicken and shrimp in a sun-dried tomato pesto. Prospect Café is also home to arguably our favorite pizza in the entire Hartford area---regrettably to be found only on the evening bar menu: a spinach, garlic and sausage pie that places just the right amount of each topping on its thin, flaky and very crunchy crust. |
